Your Pattern package will arrive with instructions to enlarge the patterns 200% to make the applique' designs the size of the originals. HOWEVER, I'd like to point out that the finished background size of the blocks in the original quilt from 1858 varied from 19" to 20" in size. This explains why the quilt finished at 96" x 98".
For uniformity and accuracy in sewing your blocks and quilt together, I recommend the following enlargment instructions:
Enlarge the patterns 200%, IF you wish your quilt blocks to finish at 20".
Quilt will measure 100" x 100".
Enlarge your patterns 160%, IF you wish your quilt blocks to finish at 16".
Quilt will measure 80" x 80".
If you choose NOT to enlarge your patterns - your blocks will finish at 9".
Quilt will measure 45" x 45".
PLEASE NOTE -
We have a network of Quilt Shops in the state of Virginia excited to promote this Blog Along to support the VA Quilt Museum.
